Fact
Chicago isn't called the
windy city because of the wind, but rather for Chicago civic leaders' boasting about
the beauty of the city in order to become the site of the Columbian
Exposition in 1893. They succeeded and the fair took place on the
Midway right in front of where the Admissions Office is located now.
At the end of the Midway is the Museum of Science and Industry, which
is housed in a beautiful replica of a building erected on the Midway
for the fair. Be sure to check out the Japanese Garden behind the
museum, which is about as serene as it gets in Hyde Park. -Jennifer, 4th year
