The University House System says:
A 14-story building with elevator, the Shoreland was built as a luxury hotel in 1928 and was renovated in 1977 when the University acquired it for housing students. All houses are co-ed and four-class. The Shoreland houses about 250 first-year and transfer students. Students may take a bus to classes and meals, but many enjoy bicycling or walking the 20 minutes to campus. Facilities include a central house lounge on each floor, a rec room with pool and ping-pong tables, video games and vending machines; three large television rooms, five music practice rooms (one for bands), an exercise room, study rooms and a student-run coffee shop.
