The University House System says:

Maclean House is a lovely four-story building with elevator. Originally built as a church retirement home, it was renovated in 1991. There are wonderful common areas including a modern and well-equipped community kitchen and dining area, spacious lounges, a television room, exercise room, computer room, game room and assembly hall (a fee is charged for use of the community kitchen). All floors are co-ed. Almost one-half of students are first-year and new transfer students; the remainder are second-, third- and fourth-years. Named after Norman Maclean, a popular teacher at Chicago for 45 years and author of A River Runs Through It, Maclean has a very "home-y" character; the side yard plays host to an annual cookout honoring Mr. Maclean.
